The IPL 2027 auction will be held in Goa in December, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on Wednesday, with the event expected to take place in the second week of the month.

The auction will be the final mini-auction of the 2023-27 IPL cycle. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had previously staged the IPL auction at overseas venues, including Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

“This year, after hosting the IPL auction in three foreign locations – Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi last year – we are going to host it in Goa in the month of December,” Saikia told ANI.

The IPL has not yet announced the exact date of the auction. However, the event is expected to be held in the second week of December.

The retention deadline for the 10 franchises has also not been announced. It is usually scheduled towards the end of November and will determine the players available for the mini-auction.

The schedule for IPL 2027 is also yet to be finalised. In 2024, the IPL announced a tournament window from March 14 to May 30 for the 2027 season. However, following the recent BCCI AGM, Saikia said the next edition is expected to begin towards the end of March.

The BCCI is also considering an earlier start to the IPL from 2027 to reduce the number of matches played during the extreme summer period in India.

Several significant changes have already taken place among the franchises ahead of the new season.

Rishabh Pant has returned to Delhi Capitals, while Kuldeep Yadav moved from Delhi Capitals to Lucknow Super Giants in a high-profile trade between the two teams.

Chennai Super Kings have appointed former India fast bowler Zaheer Khan as their head coach ahead of the 2027 season. The appointment was announced on Tuesday as the five-time champions prepare for the next IPL campaign.

Kolkata Knight Riders, meanwhile, will need to identify a new captain following Ajinkya Rahane’s retirement from international and Indian cricket.

Mumbai Indians have also strengthened their backroom setup by appointing Zubin Bharucha as director of performance.

The franchises will now turn their attention to player retentions before preparing for the December auction in Goa.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru will enter IPL 2027 as the defending champions after winning consecutive titles in 2025 and 2026.

With the auction date and retention deadline still to be confirmed, further details about the IPL 2027 schedule and squad-building process are expected to emerge in the coming weeks.
