The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg has been confirmed as the venue for the 2027 ODI World Cup final, with the iconic South African ground also set to host the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan group-stage match on October 10.
The venue, which previously hosted the 2003 World Cup final, has been selected ahead of Newlands in Cape Town. With a capacity of more than 30,000, the Wanderers is South Africa’s largest cricket ground and will stage two of the tournament’s biggest fixtures.
India vs Australia to Open 2027 World Cup
Newlands will host the opening match of the tournament on October 7, when India face defending champions Australia in a repeat of the 2023 World Cup final.
The 2027 edition will officially begin on October 2, with the tournament concluding with the final at the Wanderers on November 21. The semi-finals and final will have reserve days.
Before the main tournament, the Namibia Cricket Ground in Windhoek will host a three-team Super Series that will determine the final team to enter the 12-team World Cup.
2027 ODI World Cup Groups
The 12-team main tournament will be divided into two groups of six teams.
| Group A | Group B |
| India | Bangladesh |
| Australia | England |
| Pakistan | South Africa |
| Zimbabwe | Sri Lanka |
| Qualifier 1 | New Zealand |
| Qualifier 2 | Qualifier 2 |
The two remaining places will be decided through a 10-team qualifying tournament scheduled for early 2027. The winner will qualify directly for the World Cup, while the losing finalist and two losing semi-finalists will enter the Super Series.
The top eight teams in the ICC rankings, excluding the co-hosts, secured automatic qualification based on the rankings cut-off of September 30.

South Africa and Zimbabwe Begin Campaigns at Home
South Africa, one of the co-hosts, will begin their campaign against New Zealand at Newlands on October 9. The fixture will also be a rematch of the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final.
Zimbabwe will start their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan in Bulawayo on October 11.
Zimbabwe are scheduled to host five group-stage matches, while the newly constructed Mosi-oa-Tunya Stadium in Victoria Falls will host India’s final group match against Zimbabwe on October 24.
Super 7 Phase to Follow Group Stage
The tournament will move into the Super 7 phase after the group stage. The top three teams from each group will qualify, with the best fourth-placed team across the two groups taking the seventh position.
Several teams have already been assigned pre-seeded positions for the Super 7 stage:
| Seed | Team |
| A1 | India |
| A2 | Australia |
| A3 | Pakistan |
| AB4 | England |
| B1 | New Zealand |
| B2 | South Africa |
| B3 | Sri Lanka |
Based on the pre-seeding, the Victoria Falls venue is scheduled to host three Super 7 matches: India vs Australia on October 28, Pakistan vs England on October 30 and Australia vs New Zealand on November 1.
There could also be another India-Pakistan meeting during the Super 7 phase, with a potential fixture scheduled for Cape Town on November 7, depending on how the teams progress from the group stage.
Durban to Host Super 7 Finale
Durban will host five matches during the tournament, including the final Super 7 fixture on November 14.
The scheduled game will be between A1 (India) and B3 (Sri Lanka), according to the tournament’s pre-seeding arrangements.
The semi-finals are scheduled for Newlands on November 17 and SuperSport Park in Tshwane on November 18. The winners will then meet at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg for the World Cup final on November 21.
